February 28, 2011: Franklin, TX 77856 In Monday's non-league challenge, the Franklin Lions (Franklin, TX) baseball squad triumphed over the visiting Hill Country Christian Knights (Austin, TX), by a margin of 7-0.
With the win, Franklin betters its record to 3-1 on the season. The Lions host Hearne (Hearne, TX) to encounter the Eagles in a 2A Region II District 16 challenge on Tuesday, March 8. The Eagles come into the challenge with a record of 2-4.
With the defeat, Hill Country Christian falls to 3-4 on the season. The Knights travel to CenTex HomeSchool (Temple, TX) to encounter the Chargers in a non-league challenge on Thursday, March 3. The Chargers come into the challenge with a record of 3-5. CenTex HomeSchool lost 14-1 in their recent non-league challenge against Godley (Godley, TX)
Game Summary
Hill Country pitchers Paul Klein, junior, and Trent Karlson, senior, limited Franklin, the team ranked No. 10 in the Texas High School Baseball Coaches Association (THSBCA) preseason poll, to five hits over six innings but three errors led to five unearned runs for the Lions.
The Knights missed opportunities to score by stranding runners at third in the top of the first, top of the third, and top of the seventh innings.
Hill Country had runners on first and second with no outs in the top of the sixth, but couldn't get the key hit to plate a run.
