Athens Hornets (Athens, TX) backers were in high spirits Tuesday as they witnessed their basketball squad thwart the host Van Vandals (Van, TX), 79-60 in a league bout.

With the win, Athens upgrades its record to 15-8 on the season. The Hornets host Lindale (Lindale, TX) to play the Eagles in a 4A Region II District 16 bout on Friday, January 13. The Eagles go into the bout with a record of 17-5. Lindale won 48-39 in their recent league bout against Mabank (Mabank, TX)

Next up, the Vandals play the Canton Eagles (Canton, TX) in a 4A Region II District 16 bout, on Friday, January 13. Van will attempt to upgrade on its 5-11 season record. The Eagles go into the bout with a 22-5 record after their 49-32 league win over Brownsboro (Brownsboro, TX).
