North Providence Cougars (North Providence, RI) backers were in high spirits Wednesday as they witnessed their basketball squad tip the host North Smithfield Northmen (North Smithfield, RI), 53-48 in a league bout.

With the win, North Providence upgrades its record to 9-1 on the season. The Cougars travel to Mount St. Charles Academy (Woonsocket, RI) to play the Mounties in a Division 3 bout on Friday, January 12. The Mounties go into the bout with a record of 5-3. Mount St. Charles Academy won 54-44 in their recent league bout against Davies Career & Tech (Lincoln, RI)

Next up, the Northmen play the Paul Cuffee (Providence, RI) in a Division 3 bout, on Friday, January 12. North Smithfield will attempt to upgrade on its 7-1 season record. The go into the bout with a 2-4 record after their 49-30 league loss to Ponaganset (North Scituate, RI).
