The Coronado Thunderbirds basketball squad (El Paso, TX), was nudged 49-47 in Friday's league battle with the host Eastlake Falcons (El Paso, TX)
With the victory, Eastlake advances its record to 17-5 on the year. The Falcons host Immanuel Christian (El Paso, TX) to meet the Warriors in a non-league battle on Saturday, January 11. The Warriors enter the battle with a record of 10-11. Immanuel Christian won 70-49 in their recent non-league battle against Fort Hancock (Fort Hancock, TX)
The Thunderbirds now own a 16-6 record. They put it on the line next when they travel to Franklin for a 6A Region I District 1 battle on Tuesday, January 14. Coronado will meet a Cougars squad coming off a 54-46 league loss to Pebble Hills (El Paso, TX). The Cougars record now stands at 12-11.
First Quarter
Brutal game physically for both teams, but that is the game that Coronado likes to play. Tristan Edmond led the first quarter through 4th quarter scoring.
Second Quarter
Coronado led by 1 point at the half after another quarter of physical play. It was almost as if they wanted to bully Eastlake off their home court.
Third Quarter
A clear leaders established themselves as Eastlake hoopers Jacob Delgado and Tristan Edmond propelled the Falcons to a 7 point third quarter lead.
Fourth Quarter
The fatigue sat in for the Falcons, however Tristan Edmond and Jacob Delgado again ensured we would get another chance after regulation.
Overtime
Last possession 3 point banger ended Coronado at Eastlake with the win going to the Falcons for the "Batlle of the Birds."
