In Friday's league contest, the visiting Nixon-Smiley Mustangs basketball team scored a close 59-56 triumph over the Stockdale Brahmas.

The Mustangs (7-9) will now prepare for their contest against Luling (Luling, TX). The Eagles go into the 3A Region IV District 26 contest with a 9-13 record. In their last contest, Luling was tipped by La Vernia (La Vernia, TX), 84-53, in a non-league contest.

In their next game, the Brahmas confront the Poth Pirates (Poth, TX) in a 3A Region IV District 26 contest, on Tuesday, January 14. Stockdale will attempt to better on its 7-13 season record. The Pirates go into the contest with a 10-10 record after their 49-23 league win over Goliad (Goliad, TX).
