The Ariton Purple Cats (Ariton, AL) basketball nipped the host Long Rebels (Skipperville, AL), 44-43 in Friday's league test.

The Purple Cats (13-6) will now prepare for their test against Abbeville (Abbeville, AL). The Yellowjackets go into the 2A Area 3 test with a 12-7 record. In their last test, Abbeville was tipped by Eufaula (Eufaula, AL), 58-47, in a non-league test.

The Rebels now own a 5-13 record. They play next when they travel to Barbour County for a 2A Area 3 test on Tuesday, January 17. Long will encounter a Jaguars squad coming off a 65-56 non-league win over Bullock County (Union Springs, AL). The Jaguars record now stands at 13-3.
