Fans at Monday's league challenge between the Alleghany Mountaineers (Covington, VA) and the host James River Knights (Buchanan, VA), saw Alleghany's basketball squad hold off James River by a tally of 53-47.

With the victory, Alleghany improves its record to 9-5 on the campaign. The Mountaineers host Radford (Radford, VA) to confront the Bobcats in a Three Rivers challenge on Friday, January 20. The Bobcats come into the challenge with a record of 3-11. Radford lost 48-32 in their recent league challenge against Glenvar (Salem, VA)

Next up, the Knights confront the Floyd County Buffaloes (Floyd, VA) in a Three Rivers challenge, on Thursday, January 19. James River will attempt to improve on its 9-5 season record. The Buffaloes come into the challenge with a 11-4 record after their 76-30 league loss to Carroll County (Hillsville, VA).
