The crowd at Thursday's league challenge between the Cumberland Dukes (Cumberland, VA) and the host Randolph-Henry Statesmen (Charlotte Court House, VA), observed Cumberland's basketball team edge Randolph-Henry by a margin of 40-37.

The Dukes (7-3) will now prepare for their challenge against Nottoway (Nottoway, VA). The Cougars come into the James River challenge with a 4-6 record. In their last challenge, Nottoway edged Randolph-Henry (Charlotte Court House, VA), 56-37, in a league challenge.

In their next game, the Statesmen battle the Buckingham Knights (Buckingham, VA) in a James River challenge, on Friday, January 17. Randolph-Henry will attempt to better on its 3-8 season record. The Knights come into the challenge with a 6-3 record after their 64-51 non-league loss to Appomattox County (Appomattox, VA).
