In Friday's league contest, the host Maryvale Prep Matador basketball team scored a close 69-68 win over the North Phoenix Preparatory Academy Gladiators.

The Matador (2-11) will now prepare for their contest against Bagdad (Bagdad, AZ). The Sultans come into the 1A West contest with a 13-5 record. In their last contest, Bagdad was tipped by Antelope (Wellton, AZ), 47-46, in a league contest.

In their next game, the Gladiators battle the Desert Heights Prep Yote (Glendale, AZ) in a 1A West contest, on Tuesday, January 21. North Phoenix Preparatory Academy will attempt to better on its 3-9 season record.
