Martinsville Pirates (Martinsville, TX) backers were in high spirits Friday as they witnessed their basketball squad tip the host Slocum Mustangs (Elkhart, TX), 36-30 in a league bout.

With the win, Martinsville upgrades its record to 16-7 on the season. The Pirates host Neches (Neches, TX) to clash with the Tigers in a 1A Region IV District 27 bout on Tuesday, January 23. The Tigers go into the bout with a record of 14-9. Neches won 84-46 in their recent league bout against Centerville (Groveton, TX)

Next up, the Mustangs clash with the Wells Pirates (Wells, TX) in a 1A Region IV District 27 bout, on Tuesday, January 23. Slocum will attempt to upgrade on its 8-16 season record. The Pirates go into the bout with a 12-11 record after their 65-46 league win over Apple Springs (Apple Springs, TX).
