Mississippi High School Basketball - Leake Central can't hold off Newton County

The Leake Central Gators basketball team (Carthage, MS), was nudged 51-48 in Friday's league battle with the host Newton County Cougars (Decatur, MS)
The Cougars now possess a 10-9 record. They put it on the line next when they host Choctaw Central for a 4A Region 4 battle on Tuesday, January 23. Newton County will battle a Warriors team coming off a 70-27 league win over Northeast Lauderdale (Meridian, MS). The Warriors record now stands at 16-2.
The Gators (13-5) will now prepare for their battle against West Lauderdale (Collinsville, MS). The Knights come into the 4A Region 4 battle with a 4-15 record. In their last battle, West Lauderdale was nudged by Northeast Lauderdale (Meridian, MS), 64-31, in a league battle.
