Wingate Bears (Fort Wingate, NM) backers were in high spirits Friday as they witnessed their basketball squad tip the host Zuni Thunderbirds (Zuni, NM), 47-46 in a league bout.

With the win, Wingate upgrades its record to 6-10 on the season. The Bears host Newcomb (Newcomb, NM) to play the Skyhawks in a 3A District 1 bout on Saturday, January 20. The Skyhawks go into the bout with a record of 8-7. Newcomb lost 64-37 in their recent league bout against Thoreau (Thoreau, NM)

Next up, the Thunderbirds play the Navajo Prep Eagles (Farmington, NM) in a 3A District 1 bout, on Saturday, January 20. Zuni will attempt to upgrade on its 8-6 season record. The Eagles go into the bout with a 8-8 record after their 61-24 league win over Thoreau (Thoreau, NM).
