East Columbus Gators (Lake Waccamaw, NC) backers were pleased Thursday as they saw their basketball squad knock off the visiting South Columbus Stallions (Tabor City, NC), 53-45 in a league game.

In their next game, the Gators face the West Columbus Vikings (Cerro Gordo, NC) in a 1A/2A Conference 5 game, on Tuesday, January 25. East Columbus will attempt to move on its 5-8 season record.

With the defeat, South Columbus moves to 0-16 on the year. The Stallions host Whiteville (Whiteville, NC) to face the Wolfpack in a 1A/2A Conference 5 game on Tuesday, January 25. The Wolfpack enter the game with a record of 11-3. Whiteville won 48-44 in their recent league game against Heide Trask (Rocky Point, NC)
