Virginia High School Basketball - Westmoreland tops Essex

January 20, 2023: Tappahannock, VA 22560

Fans at Friday's league challenge between the Westmoreland Eagles (Montross, VA) and the host Essex Trojans (Tappahannock, VA), saw Westmoreland's basketball squad knock off Essex by a tally of 69-60.

With the victory, Westmoreland improves its record to 9-5 on the campaign. The Eagles host Surry County (Dendron, VA) to encounter the Cougars in a non-league test on Saturday, January 21. The Cougars go into the test with a record of 6-11. Surry County won 66-30 in their recent league test against Appomattox Regional Governor's Arts & Tech (Petersburg, VA)

The Trojans now own a 7-6 record. They play next when they host Middlesex for a non-league test on Saturday, January 21. Essex will encounter a Chargers squad coming off a 69-51 league win over Carver College and Career Academy (Chester, VA). The Chargers record now stands at 13-2.
