Denver City Mustangs (Denver City, TX) backers were pleased Tuesday as they saw their basketball squad hold off the host Friona Chieftans (Friona, TX), 53-48 in a league bout.

With the victory, Denver City upgrades its record to 15-12 on the campaign. The Mustangs host Muleshoe (Muleshoe, TX) to play the Mules in a 3A Region I District 3 bout on Friday, January 26. The Mules come into the bout with a record of 4-12. Muleshoe won 58-46 in their recent league bout against Friona (Friona, TX)

Next up, the Chieftans play the Dimmitt Bobcats (Dimmitt, TX) in a 3A Region I District 3 bout, on Friday, January 26. Friona will attempt to upgrade on its 13-14 season record. The Bobcats come into the bout with a 6-18 record after their 69-46 league loss to Lamesa (Lamesa, TX).
