Newton Eagles (Newton, TX) backers were in high spirits Tuesday as they witnessed their basketball squad tip the host Hemphill Hornets (Hemphill, TX), 37-35 in a league bout.

With the win, Newton upgrades its record to 1-9 on the season. The Eagles host Pineywoods Community Academy (Lufkin, TX) to play the Timberwolves in a 3A Region III District 21 bout on Friday, January 26. The Timberwolves go into the bout with a record of 23-4. Pineywoods Community Academy won 52-28 in their recent league bout against Woodville (Woodville, TX)

Next up, the Hornets play the Huntington Red Devils (Huntington, TX) in a 3A Region III District 21 bout, on Friday, January 26. Hemphill will attempt to upgrade on its 6-14 season record.
