The Wingate Bears (Fort Wingate, NM) basketball nipped the host Thoreau Hawks (Thoreau, NM), 66-61 in Tuesday's league test.

The Bears (7-11) will now prepare for their test against Cuba (Cuba, NM). The Rams go into the non-league test with a 5-12 record. In their last test, Cuba was tipped by Sandia Prep (Albuquerque, NM), 61-25, in a league test.

The Hawks now own a 5-12 record. They play next when they travel to Crownpoint for a 3A District 1 test on Thursday, January 26. Thoreau will encounter a Eagles squad coming off a 81-40 league loss to Navajo Prep (Farmington, NM). The Eagles record now stands at 13-5.
