Priest River Spartans (Priest River, ID) backers were pleased Thursday as they saw their basketball squad hold off the host Newport Grizzlies (Newport, WA), 58-56 in a non-league bout.

With the victory, Priest River upgrades its record to 1-1 on the campaign.

Next up, the Grizzlies play the Freeman Scotties (Rockford, WA) in a non-league bout, on Friday, January 26. Newport will attempt to upgrade on its 9-8 season record. The Scotties come into the bout with a 6-13 record after their 64-44 non-league win over Deer Park (Deer Park, WA).
