Powell County Pirates (Stanton, KY) backers were in high spirits Friday as they witnessed their basketball squad thwart the host Estill County Engineers (Irvine, KY), 68-55 in a league bout.

With the win, Powell County upgrades its record to 8-10 on the season. The Pirates travel to Lee County (Beattyville, KY) to play the Bobcats in a District 56 bout on Tuesday, January 30. The Bobcats go into the bout with a record of 7-11.

Next up, the Engineers play the Leslie County Eagles (Hyden, KY) in a non-league bout, on Saturday, January 27. Estill County will attempt to upgrade on its 12-6 season record. The Eagles go into the bout with a 11-7 record after their 68-14 non-league win over Cordia (Hazard, KY).
