In Friday's league bout, the George Wythe Maroons (Wytheville, VA) basketball squad overcame the host Fort Chiswell Pioneers (Max Meadows, VA), by a count of 64-44.

With the victory, George Wythe upgrades its record to 12-4 on the campaign. The Maroons travel to Grayson County (Independence, VA) to play the Blue Devils in a Mountain Empire bout on Tuesday, January 30. The Blue Devils come into the bout with a record of 6-11. Grayson County lost 68-54 in their recent league bout against Auburn (Riner, VA)

Next up, the Pioneers play the Galax Maroon Tide (Galax, VA) in a Mountain Empire bout, on Tuesday, January 30. Fort Chiswell will attempt to upgrade on its 8-9 season record. The Maroon Tide come into the bout with a 6-9 record after their 54-42 league win over Bland County (Rocky Gap, VA).
