In Friday's league match, the host Watauga Pioneers basketball team scored a decisive 72-42 triumph over the Ashe County Huskies.

In their next game, the Pioneers face the Hibriten Panthers (Lenoir, NC) in a 3A/4A Northwestern match, on Tuesday, January 30. Watauga will attempt to move on its 15-3 season record. The Panthers enter the match with a 14-2 record after their 56-39 league win over South Caldwell (Hudson, NC).

With the defeat, Ashe County moves to 11-7 on the year. The Huskies travel to Alexander Central (Taylorsville, NC) to face the Cougars in a 3A/4A Northwestern match on Friday, February 2.
