The Portsmouth Patriots (Portsmouth, RI) basketball nipped the host Woonsocket Villa Novans (Woonsocket, RI), 61-57 in Friday's league test.
The Patriots (8-7) will now prepare for their test against Classical (Providence, RI). The Purples go into the State Championship test with a 7-8 record. In their last test, Classical was tipped by Cumberland (Cumberland, RI), 72-57, in a league test.
The Villa Novans now own a 6-8 record. They play next when they travel to Cumberland for a State Championship test on Tuesday, January 31. Woonsocket will encounter a Clippers squad coming off a 72-57 league win over Classical (Providence, RI). The Clippers record now stands at 5-6.
