Benton Rangers (Benton, IL) backers were pleased Saturday as they saw their basketball squad knock off the visiting Carterville Lions (Carterville, IL), 50-38 in a non-league bout.

With the victory, Benton upgrades its record to 21-3 on the campaign. The Rangers host Anna-Jonesboro (Anna, IL) to play the Wildcats in a Southern Illinois River-to-River - Mississippi bout on Friday, February 2. The Wildcats come into the bout with a record of 15-11. Anna-Jonesboro won 61-49 in their recent non-league bout against Cairo (Cairo, IL)

Next up, the Lions play the Frankfort Redbirds (West Frankfort, IL) in a non-league bout, on Tuesday, January 30. Carterville will attempt to upgrade on its 11-11 season record. The Redbirds come into the bout with a 9-13 record after their 46-33 league loss to Pinckneyville (Pinckneyville, IL).
