Washburn Pirates (Washburn, TN) backers were pleased Saturday as they saw their basketball squad knock off the visiting Claiborne Bulldogs (New Tazewell, TN), 60-49 in a non-league bout.

With the victory, Washburn upgrades its record to 14-4 on the campaign. The Pirates host Union County (Maynardville, TN) to play the Patriots in a non-league bout on Monday, January 29. The Patriots come into the bout with a record of 11-6. Union County lost 65-46 in their recent league bout against Cumberland Gap (Cumberland Gap, TN)

Next up, the Bulldogs play the Grainger Grizzlies (Rutledge, TN) in a 3A District 2 bout, on Tuesday, January 30. Claiborne will attempt to upgrade on its 6-14 season record. The Grizzlies come into the bout with a 7-14 record after their 59-31 league loss to Greeneville (Greeneville, TN).
