The Marcus-Meriden-Cleghorn/Remsen-Union Royals (Marcus, IA) basketball nipped the visiting Akron-Westfield Westerners (Akron, IA), 41-40 in Monday's league test.

The Royals (11-4) will now prepare for their test against South O'Brien (Paullina, IA). The Wolverines go into the War Eagle test with a 13-3 record. In their last test, South O'Brien got by Gehlen Catholic (Le Mars, IA), 65-54, in a league test.

The Westerners now own a 11-4 record. They play next when they host Trinity Christian for a War Eagle test on Tuesday, January 30. Akron-Westfield will encounter a Tigers squad coming off a 60-24 non-league loss to George-Little Rock (George, IA). The Tigers record now stands at 4-12.
