Fans at Wednesday's league battle between the Golden Valley Cougars (Merced, CA) and the visiting Merced Bears (Merced, CA), saw Golden Valley's soccer squad hold off Merced by a count of 2-1.

The Cougars (5-7) will now prepare for their battle against El Capitan (Merced, CA). The Gauchos enter the Central California Conference battle with a 8-5 record. In their last battle, El Capitan tipped Buhach Colony (Atwater, CA), 1-0, in a league battle.

Next up, the Bears battle the Atwater Falcons (Atwater, CA) in a Central California Conference battle, on Friday, January 31. Merced will attempt to upgrade on its 5-10 season record. The Falcons enter the battle with a 3-8 record after their 3-1 league loss to Los Banos (Los Banos, CA).
