North Carolina High School Basketball - Mountain Heritage nudges Avery County

January 3, 2023: Burnsville, NC 28714

Mountain Heritage Cougars (Burnsville, NC) backers were in high spirits Tuesday as they witnessed their basketball squad tip the visiting Avery County Vikings (Newland, NC), 67-61 in a league bout.

With the win, Mountain Heritage upgrades its record to 12-1 on the season. The Cougars host Mitchell (Bakersville, NC) to clash with the Mountaineers in a 1A/2A Conference 42 challenge on Friday, January 6. The Mountaineers come into the challenge with a record of 4-8. Mitchell lost 74-55 in their recent non-league challenge against North Buncombe (Weaverville, NC)

Next up, the Vikings confront the Madison Patriots (Marshall, NC) in a 1A/2A Conference 42 challenge, on Friday, January 6. Avery County will attempt to improve on its 8-5 season record. The Patriots come into the challenge with a 3-11 record after their 56-50 non-league loss to Polk County (Columbus, NC).
