New Castle Hurricanes (New Castle, PA) backers were in high spirits Wednesday as they witnessed their basketball squad thwart the host North Allegheny Tigers (Wexford, PA), 59-49 in a league bout.

With the win, New Castle upgrades its record to 9-1 on the season. The Hurricanes host Butler (Butler, PA) to play the Golden Tornado in a WPIAL 6A 1 bout on Friday, January 5. The Golden Tornado go into the bout with a record of 8-1. Butler won 72-60 in their recent league bout against Seneca Valley (Harmony, PA)

Next up, the Tigers play the Pine-Richland Rams (Gibsonia, PA) in a WPIAL 6A 1 bout, on Friday, January 5. North Allegheny will attempt to upgrade on its 3-8 season record. The Rams go into the bout with a 3-5 record after their 55-48 league loss to Central Catholic (Pittsburgh, PA).
