The crowd at Friday's non-league challenge between the Alleghany Cougars (Covington, VA) and the host Blacksburg Bruins (Blacksburg, VA), observed Alleghany's basketball team edge Blacksburg by a margin of 51-45.

The Cougars (6-3) will now prepare for their challenge against Carroll County (Hillsville, VA). The Cavaliers come into the Three Rivers challenge with a 11-0 record.

In their next game, the Bruins battle the Salem Spartans (Salem, VA) in a River Ridge challenge, on Saturday, January 4. Blacksburg will attempt to better on its 2-7 season record. The Spartans come into the challenge with a 5-1 record after their 56-48 non-league win over William Byrd (Vinton, VA).
