In Friday's non-league contest, the visiting Zapata Hawks basketball team scored a close 52-45 triumph over the Grulla Gators.

The Hawks (8-10) will now prepare for their contest against King (Kingsville, TX). The Brahmas go into the 4A Region IV District 31 contest with a 8-9 record. In their last contest, King nipped Aransas Pass (Aransas Pass, TX), 66-54, in a non-league contest.

In their next game, the Gators battle the Port Isabel Tarpons (Port Isabel, TX) in a 4A Region IV District 32 contest, on Friday, January 10. Grulla will attempt to better on its 3-14 season record. The Tarpons go into the contest with a 10-9 record after their 69-49 non-league win over STX (McAllen, TX).
