In Friday's league contest, the visiting Stratford Elks basketball team scored a close 40-37 triumph over the Gruver Greyhounds.

The Elks (20-3) will now prepare for their contest against West Texas (Stinnett, TX). The Comanches go into the 2A Region I District 1 contest with a 16-7 record. In their last contest, West Texas was tipped by Spearman (Spearman, TX), 57-24, in a league contest.

In their next game, the Greyhounds battle the Vega Longhorns (Vega, TX) in a 2A Region I District 1 contest, on Tuesday, January 7. Gruver will attempt to better on its 5-11 season record. The Longhorns go into the contest with a 13-5 record after their 49-26 non-league win over Johnson City (Johnson City, TX).
