In Friday's non-league contest, the visiting Itasca Wampus Cats basketball team scored a good 37-22 triumph over the Meridian Yellowjackets.

The Wampus Cats (13-7) will now prepare for their contest against Crawford (Crawford, TX). The Pirates go into the non-league contest with a 7-4 record. In their last contest, Crawford topped Rogers (Rogers, TX), 52-35, in a non-league contest.

In their next game, the Yellowjackets battle the Meyer Ravens (Waco, TX) in a 2A Region II District 12 contest, on Tuesday, January 7. Meridian will attempt to better on its 5-11 season record. The Ravens go into the contest with a 4-11 record after their 52-39 league loss to Valley Mills (Valley Mills, TX).
