Thoreau Hawks (Thoreau, NM) backers were pleased Monday as they saw their basketball squad knock off the visiting Zuni Thunderbirds (Zuni, NM), 54-44 in a league bout.

With the victory, Thoreau upgrades its record to 12-7 on the campaign. The Hawks host Newcomb (Newcomb, NM) to play the Skyhawks in a 3A District 1 bout on Wednesday, February 1. The Skyhawks come into the bout with a record of 6-9. Newcomb lost 63-21 in their recent league bout against Tohatchi (Tohatchi, NM)

Next up, the Thunderbirds play the Wingate Bears (Fort Wingate, NM) in a 3A District 1 bout, on Friday, February 3. Zuni will attempt to upgrade on its 10-7 season record. The Bears come into the bout with a 5-14 record after their 58-31 league loss to Crownpoint (Crownpoint, NM).
