The Mescalero Apache Chiefs (Mescalero, NM) basketball nipped the host Capitan Tigers (Capitan, NM), 45-40 in Tuesday's league test.

The Chiefs (8-10) will now prepare for their test against Lordsburg (Lordsburg, NM). The Mavericks go into the 2A District 3 test with a 5-12 record. In their last test, Lordsburg got by Cloudcroft (Cloudcroft, NM), 33-32, in a league test.

The Tigers now own a 7-12 record. They play next when they travel to Tularosa for a 2A District 3 test on Saturday, February 3. Capitan will encounter a Wildcats squad coming off a 71-43 league win over Cloudcroft (Cloudcroft, NM). The Wildcats record now stands at 14-4.
