The Avery County Vikings basketball team (Newland, NC), was overwhelmed 54-29 in Wednesday's league battle with the host Mitchell Mountaineers (Bakersville, NC)

The Mountaineers now possess a 5-1 record. They put it on the line next when they travel to Mountain Heritage for a non-league battle on Tuesday, February 6. Mitchell will confront a Cougars team coming off a 36-30 non-league win over Avery County (Newland, NC). The Cougars record now stands at 10-8.

The Vikings (7-6) will now prepare for their battle against Mountain Heritage (Burnsville, NC). The Cougars come into the non-league battle with a 9-8 record. In their last battle, Mountain Heritage trounced Owen (Black Mountain, NC), 46-21, in a non-league battle.
