The crowd at Friday's league challenge between the Watauga Pioneers (Boone, NC) and the visiting South Caldwell Spartans (Hudson, NC), observed Watauga's basketball team knock off South Caldwell by a score of 80-61.

The Pioneers (13-6) will now prepare for their challenge against Alexander Central (Taylorsville, NC). The Cougars come into the 3A/4A Northwestern challenge with a 10-9 record. In their last challenge, Alexander Central prevailed over Ashe County (West Jefferson, NC), 59-29, in a league challenge.

In their next game, the Spartans encounter the Freedom Patriots (Morganton, NC) in a 3A/4A Northwestern challenge, on Tuesday, February 4. South Caldwell will attempt to improve on its 13-6 season record. The Patriots come into the challenge with a 15-4 record after their 82-44 league win over Hibriten (Lenoir, NC).
