In Friday's non-league contest, the host Hartley-Melvin-Sanborn Hawks basketball team scored a close 39-38 triumph over the Trinity Christian Tigers.

The Hawks (12-7) will now prepare for their contest against George-Little Rock (George, IA). The Mustangs go into the Siouxland contest with a 11-6 record. In their last contest, George-Little Rock nipped South O'Brien (Paullina, IA), 55-30, in a non-league contest.

In their next game, the Tigers battle the Marcus-Meriden-Cleghorn/Remsen-Union Royals (Marcus, IA) in a Freelance contest, on Tuesday, February 4. Trinity Christian will attempt to better on its 5-9 season record. The Royals go into the contest with a 1-17 record after their 60-24 non-league loss to Harris-Lake Park (Lake Park, IA).
