Belmont Cardinals (Belmont, MS) backers were in high spirits Friday as they witnessed their basketball squad thwart the visiting Mantachie Mustangs (Mantachie, MS), 54-35 in a league bout.

With the win, Belmont upgrades its record to 11-5 on the season. The Cardinals travel to Smithville (Smithville, MS) to play the Seminoles in a non-league bout on Saturday, January 6. The Seminoles go into the bout with a record of 5-5. Smithville won 63-54 in their recent league bout against Vardaman (Vardaman, MS)

Next up, the Mustangs play the Wheeler Eagles (Wheeler, MS) in a non-league bout, on Monday, January 8. Mantachie will attempt to upgrade on its 5-10 season record. The Eagles go into the bout with a 11-7 record after their 72-59 league win over Tupelo Christian Prep (Belden, MS).
