Fans at Friday's league challenge between the Newburgh Free Academy Goldbacks (Newburgh, NY) and the visiting Middletown Middie Bears (Middletown, NY), saw Newburgh Free Academy's basketball squad hold off Middletown by a count of 56-52.

With the victory, Newburgh Free Academy upgrades its record to 3-2 on the campaign. The Goldbacks travel to Monroe-Woodbury (Central Valley, NY) to play the Crusaders in a Section 9 Orange County I challenge on Monday, January 8. The Crusaders come into the challenge with a record of 9-0. Monroe-Woodbury won 94-43 in their recent league challenge against Pine Bush (Pine Bush, NY)

Next up, the Middie Bears play the Binghamton Patriots (Binghamton, NY) in a non-league challenge, on Friday, January 12. Middletown will attempt to upgrade on its 3-10 season record.
