Sulphur Bluff Bears (Sulphur Bluff, TX) backers were pleased Friday as they saw their basketball squad hold off the visiting Avery Bulldogs (Avery, TX), 59-52 in a league bout.

With the victory, Sulphur Bluff upgrades its record to 10-12 on the campaign. The Bears travel to Avinger (Avinger, TX) to play the Indians in a 1A Region III District 24 bout on Tuesday, January 10. The Indians come into the bout with a record of 5-16. Avinger won 65-26 in their recent league bout against Union Hill (Gilmer, TX)

Next up, the Bulldogs play the Saltillo Lions (Saltillo, TX) in a 1A Region III District 24 bout, on Tuesday, January 10. Avery will attempt to upgrade on its 13-11 season record. The Lions come into the bout with a 15-7 record after their 52-38 league win over Yantis (Yantis, TX).
