St. John Paul II Lions (Hyannis, MA) backers were pleased Friday as they saw their basketball squad knock off the host Nantucket Whalers (Nantucket, MA), 50-35 in a league bout.

With the victory, St. John Paul II upgrades its record to 1-0 on the campaign. The Lions travel to Monomoy (Harwich, MA) to play the Sharks in a Cape & Islands bout on Monday, January 9. The Sharks come into the bout with a record of 0-0.

Next up, the Whalers play the Sandwich Blue Knights (East Sandwich, MA) in a Cape & Islands bout, on Saturday, January 7. Nantucket will attempt to upgrade on its 1-4 season record.
