Alaska High School Basketball - Newhalen holds off Birchwood Christian

In Wednesday's non-league contest, the visiting Newhalen Malamutes basketball team scored a close 43-39 triumph over the Birchwood Christian Warriors.
The Malamutes (1-0) will now prepare for their contest against Tri-Valley (Healy, AK). The Warriors go into the non-league contest with a 3-0 record. In their last contest, Tri-Valley nipped Nanwalek (Nanwalek, AK), 56-33, in a non-league contest.
In their next game, the Warriors confront the Cook Inlet Academy Eagles (Soldotna, AK) in a 1A Peninsula contest, on Thursday, January 9. Birchwood Christian will attempt to better on its 0-4 season record. The Eagles go into the contest with a 2-2 record after their 76-66 non-league win over Ninilchik (Ninilchik, AK).
