North Carolina High School Basketball - Madison thwarts Avery County

January 9, 2025: Marshall, NC 28753

The crowd at Thursday's league challenge between the Madison Patriots (Marshall, NC) and the visiting Avery County Vikings (Newland, NC), observed Madison's basketball team knock off Avery County by a score of 61-52.

The Patriots (6-7) will now prepare for their challenge against Mountain Heritage (Burnsville, NC). The Cougars come into the 1A/2A Western Highlands challenge with a 9-2 record. In their last challenge, Mountain Heritage prevailed over Mitchell (Bakersville, NC), 74-59, in a league challenge.

In their next game, the Vikings encounter the Owen Warhorses (Black Mountain, NC) in a 1A/2A Western Highlands challenge, on Monday, January 13. Avery County will attempt to improve on its 8-5 season record. The Warhorses come into the challenge with a 9-2 record after their 65-39 league win over NCSSM: Morganton (Morganton, NC).
