The crowd at Thursday's league challenge between the Watauga Pioneers (Boone, NC) and the host South Caldwell Spartans (Hudson, NC), observed Watauga's basketball team overcome South Caldwell by a margin of 74-55.

The Pioneers (7-4) will now prepare for their challenge against Asheville Christian Academy (Swannanoa, NC). The Lions come into the non-league challenge with a 6-8 record. In their last challenge, Asheville Christian Academy defeated High Point Christian Academy (High Point, NC), 42-29, in a non-league challenge.

In their next game, the Spartans battle the Freedom Patriots (Morganton, NC) in a 3A/4A Northwestern challenge, on Tuesday, January 14. South Caldwell will attempt to better on its 9-6 season record. The Patriots come into the challenge with a 8-6 record after their 47-45 league win over Hibriten (Lenoir, NC).
