The New Kent Trojans volleyball team scored 3 points and restricted the host Smithfield Packers to 1 in the Trojans league triumph on Monday.
The Trojans now possess a 12-3 record. They play next when they travel to York for a Bay Rivers outing on Tuesday, October 14. New Kent will battle a Falcons squad coming off a 3-0 league win over Gloucester (Gloucester, VA). The Falcons record now stands at 3-9.
The Packers (3-10) will now prepare for their match against Tabb (Yorktown, VA). The Tigers enter the Bay Rivers contest with a 9-5 record. In their last contest, Tabb was knocked off by New Kent (New Kent, VA), 3-0, in a league contest.
Match Summary
The Packers of Smithfield gave the Lady Trojans all they could handle in their second meeting of the season, going four sets 25-17, 22-25, 29-27, and 25-12. The Packers defense constantly got up NK's attacks in the first three games, while generating more attacks of their own. It wasn't until NK started varying their attacks in the fourth set, adding some dinks and roll shots to their hard hits, that NK finally showed the dominance befitting the number two team in Bay Rivers. Stats leaders for NK included Leah rounds with 16 Ks, eight digs, five blocks, and two aces. Ava Nieto added 10 Ks, while Carly Sachs contributed 9, Ryan Griffith 5, and Reagan Hailey-Robinson 4. Setters Desi Stowe and Brielle Perry recorded 17 assists each. On defense, Sachs led with 12 Digs, Stowe added 11, Carina Dolci and Brooklyn Wiles 9 each, and Katelyn Moore 22. Moore also tallied 14 service points and 100% serving.
