The New Kent Trojans volleyball team scored 3 points and restricted the visiting York Falcons to 0 in the Trojans league triumph on Tuesday.
The Trojans now have a 17-2 record. They play next when they travel to Poquoson for a Bay Rivers outing on Thursday, October 17. New Kent will play a Islanders team coming off a 3-2 league win over Smithfield (Smithfield, VA). The Islanders record now stands at 10-10.
With the loss, York drops to 6-9 on the campaign. The Falcons host Bruton (Williamsburg, VA) to play the Panthers in a Bay Rivers outing on Wednesday, October 16. The Panthers come into the outing with a record of 16-4. Bruton won 3-1 in their recent league outing against Jamestown (Williamsburg, VA)
Match Summary
The Lady Trojans swept the Falcons of York HS in straight sets, playing all 15 team members in the process. The first set was close with multiple ties until a score of 10-10 was reached. At that point the Lady Trojans pulled away to win the set 25-15. In set two, NK had the first serve and setter Mackenzie Loveland guided the team to a 7-0 lead with aces and 3 Ks by Carly Sachs and a block by Ava Nieto. From there, NK extended the lead with Ks from Nieto, Ryan Griffith, Leah Rounds, and Hannah Sachs, with Libero Abby McLaughlin finishing off the set with two aces. York took the early lead in the third set at 0-4 and continued to lead by as much as nine points at 11-20. But the Lady Trojans slowly fought back behind the Ks of Chloe Lightner, Carly Sachs, and Nieto, finally tying the set at 24-24. A K by Rounds and an ace by Loveland won ended the game in the Trojan's favor 26-24.
