The New Kent Trojans prevailed the host York Falcons volleyball team by a score of 3-0 in Tuesday's league test.
The Trojans now have a 10-10 record. They put it on the line next when they host Poquoson for a Bay Rivers test on Thursday, October 19. New Kent will confront a Islanders team coming off a 3-0 league loss to Smithfield (Smithfield, VA). The Islanders record now stands at 10-9.
The Falcons (9-8) will now prepare for their test against Bruton (Williamsburg, VA). The Panthers enter the Bay Rivers test with a 12-5 record. In their last test, Bruton dropped by Jamestown (Williamsburg, VA), 3-1, in a league test.
Match Summary
The Lady Trojans avenged their earlier loss to the York Falcons with a three-set win, 25-20, 25-18, 25-21. The Lady Trojans started hot in the first set, hitting .470 with nine attack winners and only 1 error to York's .170 with 8 winners but 5 errors. The big swing in the game, and perhaps the match, came late in set one with NK down 15-20. Libero Abby McLaughlin rotated to the serving position and served out the game with 10 good serves including 5 aces. The other five points came from 2 blocks and a spike winner by Leah Rounds, a spike by Courtney Carter, and a Falcon attack error. In the second set, NK continued to dominate the offensive game with 11 attack winners to York's 6 and 3 service aces to York's 1. Set 3 was incredibly close with the lead changing 24 times before NK finally went ahead for good at 21-20. Two Carter aces and 2 Falcon errors gave NK the match. New Kent has won three of their last four matches and four of six in the second round of district play.
