North Carolina High School Basketball - West Wilkes can't hold off Avery County

November 14, 2025: Millers Creek, NC 28651

Avery County Vikings (Newland, NC) supporters left the game happy Friday as they witnessed their basketball squad hold off the host West Wilkes Blackhawks (Millers Creek, NC), 64-63 in a non-league match.

With the victory, Avery County advances its record to 1-0 on the year. The Vikings host Smoky Mountain (Sylva, NC) to face the Mustangs in a non-league match on Tuesday, November 18. The Mustangs enter the match with a record of 1-0. Smoky Mountain won 67-55 in their recent non-league match against Madison (Marshall, NC)

The Blackhawks now have a 0-1 record. They play next when they host South Caldwell for a non-league match on Tuesday, November 18. West Wilkes will face a Spartans squad coming off a 79-43 non-league win over West Caldwell (Lenoir, NC). The Spartans record now stands at 1-0.
