Match Summary
In an evenly played, physical match Thursday night, a perfectly executed free kick just under the crossbar by Gulf Coast senior captain Paige Norris just before halftime proved to be the winner against Aubrey Rogers in the girls’ varsity contest.
The 4-1-1 Patriots best chances came late in the match on shots by junior midfielder Ava Schultz and sophomore forward Sheli Bershadski, but the 2-1-1 Sharks senior keeper Sydney Lindgren was up to the task.
Gulf Coast’s Lindgren had four saves on the night. Aubrey Rogers’ junior captain Riley Mikes had to clear two dangerous attacks in addition to saving two shots on goal. It was the first goal given up this season by the Patriots.
Once again the rosters reflected the disparity between a new,
smaller Class 4A school and a more established, larger Class 7A school. Aubrey Rogers fielded 10 freshmen, Gulf Coast 3. Gulf Coast rostered 13 seniors; Aubrey Rogers one.
