Match Summary
The Region 3A champion Grafton Clippers swept the Region 3A runner-up New Kent Lady Trojans 25-15, 25-20, 25-21 in their Class 3 state semifinal match. NK looked to have an opening when Grafton started the match without all-region middle hitter Kenzie Smith, who was out sick. But last year's middle hitter, sophomore Ann Breckens, moved from the right side back to the middle, where she filled in ably for the missing Smith. NK ends their season with a 23-4 record, 2nd in Bay Rivers regular season, Region 3A runner-up, and the only NKHS team to achieve a 20-win regular season record. Offensive highlights for NK include Leah Rounds' 13 Ks, Carly Sachs' 8 Ks, Fallon Greenawalt's 6 Ks, and Kendall White's single K. Defensively, Rounds and White added 2 & 1 blocks, respectively, while C. Sachs recorded 11 digs, Abby McLaughlin 8, Greenawalt and Hannah Sachs 7, and Mackenzie Loveland 6. Loveland added 22 assists. McLaughlin added 2 aces, with C. Sachs, Greenawalt, and Hunter Harlow adding 1.
